KADWA SOLIDARITY MANGA WORKSHOP, SEP 6-7, 2025
This digital zine is the powerful outcome of the Solidarity Manga Workshop, a creative response to the typhoon that devastated La Union, Philippines, in July 2025. Bringing together artists from 6 countries, this project transformed the Filipino concept of companionship into a vibrant visual narrative. Under the mentorship of experienced mangaka Valerie Yu, thе creators explored how mutual support fortify us against adversity. More than an artistic collection, this zine serves as a living document of recovery.
Guided by the principle of “kadwa”—a partner in both work and play—the artists conceived a collection of stories. Each explored a different facet of this profound bond: mutual aid in the face of disaster, the subtle ways we influence one another, and the harmony that arises from differences. Through collaborative character design and storytelling, they have built a world where unity is the ultimate strength, demonstrating that resilience is a collective act.
